Since both of her parents are of German descent, going on exchange to Germany was a natural choice for Sabrina’s first long-term adventure abroad. She took part in a year-long exchange program that sent her to Tübingen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, where she soaked up the culture and picked up a wealth of locals’ tips. Heather spent a full academic year on exchange at the Tec de Monterrey campus in Guadalajara, with the goals of improving her Spanish and immersing herself in Mexican culture. Not only did she achieve these goals, she also earned course credit and volunteered with community groups to gain even more insight into the colorful local culture.

Nichole volunteered in a community hospital and children’s clinic in Cusco, Peru as part of a language study program with AmeriSpan. While working as a nurse’s assistant, Nichole experienced a high-pressure cross-cultural work environment, and was able to greatly enhance her Spanish language skills by using them in a professional context.
